Introduction

I want to extend a warm welcome to those reading the blog currently. If you are here it’s likely you’re searching for answers and something I said has brought you here. Whether you’re on your own self healing journey or you have a mercurial inquisitive mind (or both, like me), you’re on the path to acquiring specific knowledge. The emphasis here is on men’s health and healing masculine energy. Other topics will be explored ranging from alchemy to shadow work. Although the emphasis is on men, all are welcome to learn and apply what’s given here accordingly. If you don’t want to miss any of this, the best way to stay updated is by signing up for the mailing list.

Men’s Health

Men’s health issues are being neglected. There are an abundance of reasons for why this may be and we could make an entire health conference dedicated to why this might be. I’m not interested in entering a blame game, the statistics speak for themselves. Men make up a staggering 75% of suicides, 47% of men have high blood pressure, male infertility is increasing globally, and men avoid doctors at all costs. This only accounts for the physical issues. Men as a whole neglect mind body wellness, which incorporates both taking care of the physical and mental aspects of health. Here I want to talk about all aspects of the self, physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual.

I’ve been reading and using Rosemary Gladstar’s Herbal Healing for Men. The book is a practical approach to holistic care for men and takes note of the disparities between male and female care even in holistic care. For example, there are many more female herbalists than male. There are more conferences, books, and retreats dedicated to women’s health than men’s. Yet men’s health fares worse, as shown above by these statistics.

Instead of complaining, I made this video to help create a pathway for men to become their strongest and healthiest. To approach it in a way that makes sense for men. To create a space for men in holistic healing where we can incorporate mind body wellness. Every man is a King of his realm. But in order for his kingdom to flourish, the King must be healthy.

To get to that point, we must first learn the difference between allopathic and holistic medicine.

What is Allopathic Medicine?

Allopathic medicine is what we know of now in modern Western medicine. It’s the healthcare system as we know it with clinics, hospitals, prescription drugs, advanced medical technology, life saving surgeries. It’s great for emergencies and acute conditions. It’s great at dealing with symptoms, such as pain. Allopathic medicine focuses on fixing the symptom.

Hi, I’m Nathan

What is Holistic Medicine?

Holistic medicine focuses on the “whole” picture. Holistic medicine is interested in finding the root cause of the symptom, not only treating the symptom. It examines every aspect of life, the mental, the emotional, the physical, and beyond that because they are all interconnected.

Examples of Allopathic and Holistic Medicine

Allopathic approach: A man presenting with impotence goes to the doctor. The doctor prescribes cialis or viagra. If a good doctor, will recommend exercise and dietary changes. He doesn’t get to the root of why he has impotence but the symptom is “cured” with the prescription.

Allopathic approach with herbs: This same man with impotence uses a search engine to look up herbs that help with impotence. He takes these herbs. He doesn’t get to the root of the problem of why he’s experiencing impotence. It’s basically herbal allopathy

Holistic approach: This same man with impotence sees an herbalist, naturopathic doctor, or OD. They examine why the man is experiencing this symptom. They run a blood panel to see his overall health and testosterone levels. The holistic approach looks at the whole picture by examining his sleep, his diet, his activity level to try to get to the root cause of the impotence.

Holistic changes in men’s health would include dietary changes, adequate sleep, and regular exercise. Since those things affect testosterone levels, those positive changes will reflect in his entire health. To supplement his lifestyle changes, he takes testosterone boosting and cortisol modulating plant allies to help his long term recovery.

Conclusion

A holistic approach for men’s health is a necessary component to raising the entire collective. The healthier we are as men, the more we’re able to provide for our families, our society, our future generations. One of the tenets of masculine energy is to look into the darkness, to penetrate it with our gaze, and to not look away. Health may be one of those topics we don’t want to touch, where we’d love to look away, but as men we must look into that darkness and confront what’s uncomfortable. The fruits of that labor will be a more vigorous and well lived life.
